Zefiro variety
This variety was obtained by selection within local plant lives of emmer wheat in southern Apennines.
Variety of winter habitus (to mature it needs a cold accumulation, therefore it must be sown in autumn-winter seasons), semi-upright plant at the end of tillering phase, with large culm and leaves and non-pigmented vegetation.
Sowing
Recommended sowing density: : 300-350 germinable seeds per square meter (about 140-160 kg / ha of hulled grain).
We recommend: sowing in rows and limited/no fertilizations (pay attention to lodging in very fertile areas).
The plant
It is cold resistant, suitable for autumn-winter seasons sowing in all farro cultivation environments.
Its plant is suitable for winter grazing (which helps to slow down the vegetation during winter and to facilitate tillering); recommended for the bulature of alfalfa in February-March (in sparse sowing).
The spike
Its spike is white, large, long, semi-compact; awns are white and very long, weakly open wide from the axis of the spike.
Caryopsis is medium-large size (42-46 mg), with thick fluff at the tip, vitreous and/or powdery rift, suitable both for pearling and milling.
